1) Do not ask the person what her wishes are, buy something you think that is great (but useless) for the person and ask her to be joyful with her whole heart.
2) Buy something the person has wished, tell her you have bought it, but give it to someone else (oh, I am sorry dear, I forgot...)
3) Tell the person that you want her to behave herself this year - do not give any clues what behaviour you want/ do not want.
My fav is the third idea. After my mum used it I finally decided to stay away from home over Christmas - I was 19 years old.
Today I slept a lot, painted a bit and tried to visit for the first and last time this Christmas the Christmas market in Hannover. Well, I got there but it was very very crowded. I felt somehow very uncomfortable not being able to walk, just all the people around me, no chance to see what the booths are offering... it was a very short visit and now I am back home.
I was asked if I was Christmas shopping in Berlin.
Well, my course ended about 6:00 pm each day so there was not enough time to visit the lovely little shops I would have loved to do. Once I went into the KaDeWe. There I bought some things - well, not for Christmas. I found the first edition of the flowmagazine in German and could not resist to buy it. And I bought a grater for hubby. He loves to eat raw salad and our old grater was in poor conditions. The new one is so great, hubby had to eat a non vegetarian raw salad today coz he grated some piece of his finger in his salad, too (He is fine again, the bleeding stopped and he is allready doing the laundry).
No, I am not only for fun in Berlin. I will attend a course and it will be very hard and dry stuff to learn.
Usually I am so tired afterwards each night I just want to sleep - well, and sometimes not just afterwards I have to admit. And I have to get as much as possible into my old head. Next exams in March 2014. I am allready a bit scared.
Yesterday we wanted to visit the exhibition of Orike Muth and on our way we saw that Waldemar Mirek was in his gallery. So we had to say hi to him and take a short stop there. He has decorated the whole room for Christmas. It was great that the art was not moving for the pics - Waldemar is such a whirlwind it was nearly impossible to get a pic of him. The last pic was the best of my tries I have to admit. Can you guess what he used in the first pic as base for the bird and the cones to hang?
Today I decided to take the car and drive to visit Designachten - a handmade fair held in the Sofa-Loft here in Hannover. After a long time searching I found a parking spot and was able to search for where the fair was - not as hard as the search for the parking spot. It takes 4,-- € entrance fee, but I bought so much cards cheaper than usual (postcards for 1,-- €/piece how cool is that?).
I love the postcards made by cmig and hand & maus and for sure the card with a cat from ranipink.
And it was great to see thing in world 1.0 - I saw only in the net before.
I had to behave myself not to buy much more than I did. Some prints were gorgeous, but I did not want to buy them without my hubby who was brave at home doing some work in our house (and he will still need some more hours to get his new working place together).
Lunch was today just an affair of rolls.
I made cookies, myself something hot to eat with veggies and thinking hubby would be coming home late I decided to do some (of mine) washing. Well, hubby did not come late, he wanted to go out (I not) and was frustrated when he learned that I still had washing in the machine, coz he usually washes his work shirts on friday nights.
I will go to Berlin for the week on sunday. I just have three pairs of trousers that fit (the others need a weight reduction of about 40 pounds). And I wanted to take clean clothes with me. Uggghh...
Yesterday I went to the Christmas market in Ober Hilbersheim.
It is just one weekend per year, but worth visiting. Well, when you find it - it is a bit hard to get there - I think they decided to built some wrong things into the GPS, coz they have to keep the visitors in a managable number - and it was still very well attended. You will see a lot of handmade things and craftmanship. You can buy great stuff and they sell local mulled wine and specialities for fair prices. The food is mostly provieded by local groups. I had a fresh baked pretzel with cheese and a mulled wine and I took a bottle of local white wine home for hubby who did not come with me - he preferred to cycle 4 hours in a gym.
I saw a lot of good things, but hey, I had to behave myself, so I just bought some handprinted cards and a new teapot (you can see it on the second pic) I am using allready at this moment while I write here.
flow (I just ordered their book for paper lovers) wrap ( I still think about ordering the new issue)
Liberty of London (shaukat has allready a sneak preview of the spring 2014 Tana Lawn - I love to sew with it summer clothes) Old German prints - aren't the roses beautiful?
Amy Butler - so beautiful fabrics - I love her honeycomb and am longing for this homedecor.
Something made by Orike Muth - I totally love her style and had to be very brave today not to buy something.
I love mugs and these are so beautiful - I just have the yellow one yet.
Since yesterday I have pain. First I thought it was just some tooth making trouble. Then it changed and other parts hurt, too. Doc said that it may be something related to the infect I had. I took pain-medicine that should help 24 hours 11 hours ago.
Now all I have is tooth pain. Seems I have to go to the dentist asap. Well, still 4 hours before he opens.
Today I was invited to the opening of an exhibition by Waldemar Mirek.
I still remember the day we sat in his gallery and ate a pizza each and the door opened and a man came in and asked Waldemar if he is interested in an exhibition in our local tax office. He is the boss of the local tax office and would like a show.
Well, today was the start of that exhibition. It is called ElsterOnline and you can visit it in the Finanzamt Hannover-Mitte Lavesallee 10.
Waldemar loves to communicate and his works play with the visitors and other works.
The big bird painting in the second pic is from an other (former) exhibit, but it goes well with Waldemars birds. And he allready sold pieces before the show started. So when you have a chance to see it you should go.
At the moment I drive to and from work.
It takes me a bit over 30 minutes, but what really bothers me is to find a parkingspace. It can take rounds and rounds of driving before I spot a space I consider big enough.
Today a nice lady helped me to get into a parkingspace, showing me how much space there still is...
Thank you, otherwise I would have not made it.
Today I took a day off to do another job-interview.
I thought about taking pics on the road coz I saw so much nice old houses; well, the weather was awfull - rainy and dark - no weather for pics, sorry.
The job-interview, it was o.k.. I will get notice next week, if I got the job.
(I do not think I will, they did not look so happy me telling them I still have to finish my course in Berlin and will miss work for several weeks).
Before the interview I still had some time to finish a bag - and I made an exchange today with a friend in honey. Sweet bag - sweet money (honey).
... best autumn weather outside and I have such a big amount of pain that I stay the most time in bed.
Not great when you just started a new job.
Good thing I just got some new books so it is not so crazy boring when I am awake.
Today I had another job-interview. It was o.k., but I think it is not the right place for me. They search for someone who uses his/her own car to go to meetings at night and it is about 45 minutes by car away over small streets through the hills which frightens me at the moment to much.
(I still remember snow and cars at the side of the street that did not make it from winters ago in a vivid form.)
Nevertheless I used the opportunity to do some shopping nearby and I enjoyed the colourful countryside during the trainride.
I do not know if you remember - I allready found a new home for this little one, but I never got the directions where he will find his new home. So he is still waiting for a person to adopt him. He is a lively little one. When you think you could give him a new home please leave a comment.
This give-away is open worldwide and I will choose a winner tomorrow.
It is easy - Sabine will get this little birdie. Thank you!
Today we had our weekly farmer market. It was all about autumn. And well, plums.
I allready made a plumcake for my hubby to take as a gift for friends we are invited to. I will stay home coz my cough is not so well that I want to go on an (mostly outdoor) party.
My garden is done in a different way than I like - the little squirrels - yes, the ones that eat my fishes and my greens as fishsalad - were working hard to get my garden to their liking before winter starts.
I made a pumpkin soup today - a vegan one was planned, but the pumpkin was so hard - a bit of finger went in it, too.
Otherwise I still sleep a lot, cough a bit less...
