1) Do not ask the person what her wishes are, buy something you think that is great (but useless) for the person and ask her to be joyful with her whole heart.
2) Buy something the person has wished, tell her you have bought it, but give it to someone else (oh, I am sorry dear, I forgot...)
3) Tell the person that you want her to behave herself this year - do not give any clues what behaviour you want/ do not want.
My fav is the third idea. After my mum used it I finally decided to stay away from home over Christmas - I was 19 years old.
Today I slept a lot, painted a bit and tried to visit for the first and last time this Christmas the Christmas market in Hannover. Well, I got there but it was very very crowded. I felt somehow very uncomfortable not being able to walk, just all the people around me, no chance to see what the booths are offering... it was a very short visit and now I am back home.
I was asked if I was Christmas shopping in Berlin.
Well, my course ended about 6:00 pm each day so there was not enough time to visit the lovely little shops I would have loved to do. Once I went into the KaDeWe. There I bought some things - well, not for Christmas. I found the first edition of the flowmagazine in German and could not resist to buy it. And I bought a grater for hubby. He loves to eat raw salad and our old grater was in poor conditions. The new one is so great, hubby had to eat a non vegetarian raw salad today coz he grated some piece of his finger in his salad, too (He is fine again, the bleeding stopped and he is allready doing the laundry).
No, I am not only for fun in Berlin. I will attend a course and it will be very hard and dry stuff to learn.
Usually I am so tired afterwards each night I just want to sleep - well, and sometimes not just afterwards I have to admit. And I have to get as much as possible into my old head. Next exams in March 2014. I am allready a bit scared.
Yesterday we wanted to visit the exhibition of Orike Muth and on our way we saw that Waldemar Mirek was in his gallery. So we had to say hi to him and take a short stop there. He has decorated the whole room for Christmas. It was great that the art was not moving for the pics - Waldemar is such a whirlwind it was nearly impossible to get a pic of him. The last pic was the best of my tries I have to admit. Can you guess what he used in the first pic as base for the bird and the cones to hang?
Today I decided to take the car and drive to visit Designachten - a handmade fair held in the Sofa-Loft here in Hannover. After a long time searching I found a parking spot and was able to search for where the fair was - not as hard as the search for the parking spot. It takes 4,-- € entrance fee, but I bought so much cards cheaper than usual (postcards for 1,-- €/piece how cool is that?).
I love the postcards made by cmig and hand & maus and for sure the card with a cat from ranipink.
And it was great to see thing in world 1.0 - I saw only in the net before.
I had to behave myself not to buy much more than I did. Some prints were gorgeous, but I did not want to buy them without my hubby who was brave at home doing some work in our house (and he will still need some more hours to get his new working place together).
Lunch was today just an affair of rolls.
I made cookies, myself something hot to eat with veggies and thinking hubby would be coming home late I decided to do some (of mine) washing. Well, hubby did not come late, he wanted to go out (I not) and was frustrated when he learned that I still had washing in the machine, coz he usually washes his work shirts on friday nights.
I will go to Berlin for the week on sunday. I just have three pairs of trousers that fit (the others need a weight reduction of about 40 pounds). And I wanted to take clean clothes with me. Uggghh...
Yesterday I went to the Christmas market in Ober Hilbersheim.
It is just one weekend per year, but worth visiting. Well, when you find it - it is a bit hard to get there - I think they decided to built some wrong things into the GPS, coz they have to keep the visitors in a managable number - and it was still very well attended. You will see a lot of handmade things and craftmanship. You can buy great stuff and they sell local mulled wine and specialities for fair prices. The food is mostly provieded by local groups. I had a fresh baked pretzel with cheese and a mulled wine and I took a bottle of local white wine home for hubby who did not come with me - he preferred to cycle 4 hours in a gym.
I saw a lot of good things, but hey, I had to behave myself, so I just bought some handprinted cards and a new teapot (you can see it on the second pic) I am using allready at this moment while I write here.
flow (I just ordered their book for paper lovers) wrap ( I still think about ordering the new issue)
Liberty of London (shaukat has allready a sneak preview of the spring 2014 Tana Lawn - I love to sew with it summer clothes) Old German prints - aren't the roses beautiful?
Amy Butler - so beautiful fabrics - I love her honeycomb and am longing for this homedecor.
Something made by Orike Muth - I totally love her style and had to be very brave today not to buy something.
I love mugs and these are so beautiful - I just have the yellow one yet.
